eXterior Renovation — Siding, Stucco, and Facade Removal

Florida's exterior surfaces take a beating — UV damage, salt air, hurricane impacts, and moisture intrusion. When it's time to re-side, re-stucco, or renovate the exterior, you're looking at a substantial amount of heavy debris.

Quick Answer

Exterior renovation debris — vinyl siding, stucco, wood clapboard, and fascia — is bulky but relatively light, making a 20 yard dumpster sufficient for most homes. Stucco removal is the exception: stucco with wire lath weighs 8-10 lbs per square foot, so a 1,500 sq ft home's stucco weighs 6-8 tons. Always separate stucco from lighter siding materials to avoid weight overages.

Stucco Removal Debris

Stucco is Florida's most common exterior finish, and removing it is messy and heavy. Stucco weighs about 8-10 lbs per square foot (including the wire lath and scratch coat underneath). A 2,000 sq ft home exterior can produce 8,000-10,000 lbs of stucco debris — that's 4-5 tons. Plan your weight limit accordingly.

Vinyl and Aluminum Siding

Vinyl and aluminum siding are much lighter than stucco — about 1-2 lbs per square foot. The same 2,000 sq ft home produces only 2,000-4,000 lbs of siding debris. A 20 yard dumpster handles most siding removal projects easily, both in volume and weight. Aluminum siding has scrap value — separate it if quantities warrant.

Fascia, Soffit, and Trim

Don't forget the details: fascia boards, soffit panels, window trim, door trim, and decorative elements all come off during exterior renovations. Rotted wood fascia and damaged aluminum soffit add up. These items are typically light enough that they don't significantly impact your weight budget, but they take up dumpster space.

Dumpster Placement for Exterior Work

Position the dumpster where the most exterior work is happening. For re-stucco jobs, crews can toss debris directly off the scaffolding into the dumpster below — this is far more efficient than hauling it to a distant dumpster. Move the dumpster as work progresses around the building, or use multiple dumpsters on different sides.
